What excites you most about running the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon?
What excites me most about running the 2014 TCS NYC Marathon is knowing I’m achieving a goal I declared many years ago! I’m actually knocking one off the bucket list! In addition: I totally dig the adrenaline rush and the crowd cheers. I am also looking forward to exploring the boroughs of New York City by foot. While training to endure and accomplishing self-victory!
What is your favorite place to run and why?
My favorite place to run is along the Central Park reservoir. I Love running by water and the city skyline view, especially while the sun is setting! It’s gorgeous!
If you run with music, what are your favorite artists or songs to listen to?
I’m eclectic when it comes to music, but what motivates me most is salsa, bomba y plena and tribal house music.
What is your favorite post-run meal?
Veggie burger with cooked onions, lettuce and dressing. YUM!
When did your relationship with running begin and why?
My relationship with running began October 2013, when my Television network invited me to participate in a charity 5K run for Bronxnets 20 year anniversary and Van Cortland Park’s hundred year anniversary of their Cross Country Trail. It was my first 5K ever! It was in that moment, I decided to begin training as a runner and I aimed for the NYC marathon. 🙂
Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions, if so, please explain?
My pre-race ritual is as such: first, I have a warm cup of lemon water, eat a banana and then I visualize myself running. Next, I meditate, then, I chant ~ Nam Myoho Renge Kyo ~
I chose 26.2 because I figured lets go for the world famous challenge that invites people from all over the world to be a part of! Right here in my home! NYC!
Tell us a little more about yourself
My name is Rhina Valentin. I am the host of Open Friday on Bronxnet Television (click on link to view). I am also the subject of reality web series “Rhina Gets Lean”(click on link to view). Most importantly, I am the mom to a beautiful five year old, Charm Vida.
My journey to a healthy conscious lifestyle began when I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my pregnancy. I am grateful to have overcome this. As a result of my experience, I decided it was important to model healthy habits for my daughter for the purposes of not only prevention but education and awareness. Especially since her father also has diabetes which places her at greater hereditary risk. That is why I joined Bronxnet’s Bronx Strong Initiative a program which allowed me to try various methods of physical training as well as re-vamp my eating habits in order to design a customized healthy lifestyle. My goal through “Rhina Gets Lean” and as a mom, has not only been to help create a healthy habitual lifestyle for myself and my family, but to encourage the next generation to take care of their health. It has taken me 3 years to incorporate these changes into a daily habit, but I have finally arrived at not only successfully integrating a healthy physical and dietary regimen, I’ve also summoned up the courage to knock one off my bucket list, I’ve decided to run in the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon!
