As I head into practice, I wonder if anyone is going to show up on a snowy, sleety, wet and cold morning for week three of our Team for Kids (TFK) United Airlines NYC Half workout, but to my surprise I find 12 brave souls waiting to run 6 miles in Central Park. For one member, Lauren Goodwin, it was her first workout with TFK. “I never would have gotten out of bed this morning and run 6 miles without the team support of TFK,” said Goodwin. Another new member, Anna, ran her first ever loop of Central Park and was thrilled with her accomplishment, even saving some gas in the tank for a sprint at the end. So this morning we had 12 reasons to run – our brave, fun and inspiring TFK members!
After the workout TFK runners were treated to a Half Marathon Basics Clinic given by Jack Rabbit manager Troy Squires at the UWS store. Troy gave an overview of everything from gear, shoes, and sports nutrition fuels such as GU Energy Gel and even a demonstration of how to use a foam roller. Anyone who missed the clinic is welcome to visit Troy at the 72nd street store for a sneaker fitting and review. Mention TFK and get double points.
