What event are you running with Team for Kids?
I am running the United Airlines NYC Half with Team for Kids and would like to run the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon as well!
What is your favorite place to run and why?
I really enjoy running in Brooklyn. The culture changes from street to street and there is a lot of great street art to admire and use as checkpoints/mile markers.
If you run with music, what are your favorite artists or songs to listen to?
I plan my playlist out by my miles. I have easy tempo songs as the run begins and power songs at the end to keep me motivated. Currently there is a lot of Nirvana, Diplo, Alex Clare and Soundgarden. Beyonce ‘Who Runs the World’ is an all-time favorite.
What is your favorite post-run meal?
A quinoa salad loaded with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, shredded beets and carrots, sliced apples, spinach or kale, seasoned with light lemon juice and black pepper. I always do a baked chicken breast or pork chop on the side to keep my muscles fed.
When did your relationship with running begin and why?
I sprained my hip a few times and vowed that when I would be able to be active again, I would start running. I ran my first race, a 4M, with my CEO. She had run the marathon previously and helped me finish strong with tips on breathing, pace and fun facts. It was really her positivity that made me enjoy the run, and inspired me to start running on my own. I started focusing on building my endurance and strength thereafter, and for 2015 I am focusing on running my first marathon and finishing it strong. All of my friends, family and coworkers are very supportive of it!
Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions, if so, please explain?
Water. I drink as much as I can the week of my race to stay hydrated on race day and make sure my body is ready to go.
Why did you choose to run this event?
I am running a number of races and wanted to run for a charity. A Half-Marathon is a perfect gateway for it!
Tell us a little more about yourself
I work in New York City and am developing a wellness program with some friends during my down time. Running, charitable work and eating clean are big components of it!
What excites you most about running your event with Team for Kids?
Meeting other members and getting my friends and family excited about running for a reason.
