What event are you running with Team for Kids?
The Airbnb Brooklyn Half!
What is your favorite place to run and why?
Roosevelt Island – I live in Astoria and it’s about a 2 mile run there and then a great flat course with spectacular views! It also never gets that hot there in the summer.
If you run with music, what are your favorite artists or songs to listen to?
I do run with music. I enjoy Maroon 5 when running (but not in any other activity). Also, ELO, Queen, and, for some reason, Michael McDonald. Basically anything that allows me to get lost in my thoughts and helps me stay the course.
What is your favorite post-run meal?
Usually chocolate soy milk. It’s really delicious.
When did your relationship with running begin and why?
I’m fairly new to the game and only started running 2 years ago. I was a kid who basically could never run a continuous mile and I really never thought I’d do it voluntarily as an adult. My best friend and my sister began participating in Run Disney events and had such great stories so I took the plunge and signed up for a 10K before even running down the block. It was many months before it, so I started slowly with the Couch to 5K program and then 5K to 10K program. I’ve done several Run Disney events at this point and am looking forward to new challenges!
Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions, if so, please explain?
No, not really!
Why did you choose to run this event?
I wanted to do a long distance race close to home. I did the Queens 10K last year and had a blast. I wanted to kick it up a notch and the Brooklyn Half seemed like the next logical step. My dad’s side of the family left Poland and settled in Greenpoint so Brooklyn is a place near and dear to my heart. My dad passed away suddenly two years ago and I’m doing this in part to honor him and his memory. He loved Brooklyn and I know he’d be thrilled I am doing this.
Tell us a little more about yourself
NY born and bred! I was born in Brooklyn, lived in Ozone Park, Queens until I was 5 and then spent the rest of my childhood/teenage years in Massapequa, Long Island. I am a 2001 graduate of Syracuse University and currently live in Astoria, Queens. I work in book publishing and love all things Disney, Mets, and Giants.
What excites you most about running your event with Team for Kids?
It’s my first half marathon in NYC! I’ve done two Run Disney half marathons (Disneyland Half 2014; Wine & Dine Half 2014) and I’m really excited to finally be doing this where I grew up. I was born in Brooklyn and my dad grew up in Greenpoint so it’s near and dear to me.
