What event are you running with Team for Kids?
The 2015 TCS New York City Marathon!
What is your favorite place to run and why?
I love running in Central Park. It gives you so many options and paths to take that you always can find a different place you haven’t been before.
If you run with music, what are your favorite artists or songs to listen to?
My running mixes includes everything from 80s (Jessie’s Girl, Bon Jovi) to today (Beyonce, Megan Trainor, Usher) with of course some running themed music thrown like Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”.
What is your favorite post-run meal?
Often after a race, a group of friends will get together for brunch. My staple is either french toast with bacon or a hamburger depending on the time of day. You may also find me with a mimosa or two 🙂
When did your relationship with running begin and why?
I began running in 2008 as a way to get back in shape after an ankle injury. I started off small and then ran my first 4M race in Central Park. My first “big race” was the 2012 NYC Half Marathon which I entered via lottery after seeing an episode of the Biggest Loser where the final contestants had to run a marathon.
Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions, if so, please explain?
Allowing enough time to use the bathroom 🙂 and taping up with KT Tape and making sure I have gum.
Why did you choose to run this event?
Since I moved to NYC, I’ve always lived on First Ave. Every year I would watch thousands of marathoners run up First Ave and hear the crowds cheering. I always thought I would run a marathon before turning 40. I’ve done a handful of half marathons (5 and counting), but that daunting 26.2 always scared me away. In January, I turned 39 and decided this is the year (and my last chance since you can’t freeze time 🙂 ). So here I go with #26.2before40 with #TeamForKids!
Tell us a little more about yourself
I’m a born and raised Floridan who moved to NYC in 2005. I am a Vice President at a PR agency in Manhattan working in sports and lifestyle where I get the opportunity to go to really cool events. I love to travel (a friend and I pick a city each year to run a half marathon) and last year I became an aunt for the first time. My favorite race (so far) was running the 2014 Disney Half Marathon with my brother, which was his first half.
I am looking forward to training with Team for Kids and making new friends!
What excites you most about running your event with Team for Kids?
This is my first marathon and I wanted the best training program and the best group to train with. I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about Team for Kids and had a friend who trained for her first marathon last year with the group. So it was a no-brainer when I saw what Team for Kids fundraising supported and what TFK offered from the start of training to the finish line in Central Park.
