What event are you running with Team for Kids?
I’m running the Airbnb Brooklyn Half with New York Road Runners Team for Kids!
What excites you most about running your event with Team for Kids?
This is my first time running for a cause, so I am thrilled that it’s for TFK! I am also really excited to run on the support of my family and dearest friends. It was my birthday on March 6 and I began my fundraising shortly before that. Seeing the amount of love and support (and money obviously!) I’ve received truly makes me so proud to be related/affiliated/amongst such good-hearted people so this race is extra special to me.
Where is your favorite place to run and why?
I love to run along the Hudson River. I live on the east side and work (and workout at Chelsea Piers) on the west side. For long distances, I love running from my apartment, down to the tip of Manhattan, and up along the West Side Highway to lock in those 8-10 mi distances. You run through so much of NYC so it’s interesting along the way!
If you run with music, what are your favorite artists or songs to listen to?
I have to run to music and it’s an eclectic list (with some guilty pleasures thrown in). Right now it’s a mix of dance/electric Top 40 such as Kygo, Diplo, Halsey, and Calvin Harris… but I do have songs like Alessia Cara’s “How Far I’ll Go” in there! It’s from the movie “Moana” and it’s very surprisingly good for moments when I want to pick up the pace!
What is your favorite post-run meal?
I try not to overdo it so usually a salad with some protein. Although for longer distances, maybe a fat sandwich of some sort!
When did your relationship with running begin and why?
Growing up I dabbled in soccer and liked the running from playing mid-field, but I was never a TRUE runner. When I moved to NYC, my sister and I decided to sign up for one of Nike’s races (part of their Women’s Running Series) – we did its 15K in Toronto. Training for that was daunting, but after the race – LITERALLY as I was at the airport waiting to fly back to NYC – I decided to register for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco later that year. I had the running bug in me and that was really the start of it all. Unfortunately, Nike discontinued their Women’s Running Series which was a huge bummer, but I was glad to come across NYRR’s Half Marathon!
Do you have any pre-race rituals or superstitions, if so, please explain?
My cousin works at Clif Bar so he’s really got me hooked on their Shot Bloks (these amazing gummy cubes of energy). I usually have a few of those before my runs and before a race. Lots of water and stretching of course.
Why did you choose to run with Team for Kids?
This year, I really wanted to do a race in NYC and came across the Airbnb Brooklyn Half and TFK. After some research, I was really taken by the cause, thought the program seemed incredibly organized, and most importantly, offered great tools/resources for both the kids it supports and the runners who fundraise. Overall, I thought it only channeled positive vibes and I felt really good about it.
Tell us a little more about yourself
I’m originally from LA (grew up in Pasadena, went to uni at USC and worked in the entertainment industry thereafter). I moved to NYC to work at the creative agency and fashion retail consultancy Gogoluxe and love the fact we’re based on the west side so I can continue to enjoy my newfound hobby of running!
